Free UPX is a graphical interface for UPX, the 'ultimate executable packer', and can help you compress or decompress various executable file types (EXE, DLL, OCX, CPL etc).

The package will often compress executables by more than standard archiving software, and the results are transparent. Compress an EXE, it keeps the same extension as before, and decompresses itself every time it's launched with no sign it was ever packed.

UPX is aimed at developers who need to reduce the size of their distribution (NirSoft uses it to keep file sizes low, for example). But you could use it to shrink your favourite applications, maybe to squeeze more onto a USB key.

You could also use Free UPX to decompress packed executables. That's handy if you're trying to analyze an EXE with something like PeStudio to find out what it does.

Whatever you're doing, Free UPX is simple to operate. Drag and drop some EXEs to see information about them, check if any are packed already, then compress or decompress them in a couple of clicks.

Beware, though: by default Free UPX rewrites the original file with its packed/ unpacked version. To change this, enter a custom output file name, or just work with a copy of the source file.

That's not all. Packing the wrong files may cause problems with some applications, if it doesn't break them entirely, so be sure to test your exe's carefully.

Version 2.3:

Added support for the latest version of the UPX: 3.93.

Verdict:

Free Wise Unpacker

Free UPX is simple and straightforward packer/ unpacker which supports many different file types (Windows, Elf, Mac OS). It's not aimed at the average home user, though, so if you don't really know what you're doing, be sure to work with copies of the source files.

Inno Setup Unpacker is an open-source command-line tool which can extract the contents of Inno Setup installers.

This could enable you to run applications without having to install them first, although there are no guarantees. The installer is supposed to prepare your system for its application to ensure it works correctly, so if you try to bypass this step then it may no longer run.

Inno Setup Unpacker is a console application, but straightforward enough to use. Forget the command line switches to list file contents, test for integrity, define paths and so on - most people can get by with nothing more than this:

Wise Unpacker Free Download

/nba-2k18-generator-key-free-download.html. innounp -x setup.exe

This tells Inno Setup Unpacker to extract the components of setup.exe into the current folder. /fs-19-game-download-for-android.html.

If your executable isn't an Inno Setup installer, you'll get an error. If it is, you'll probably see an install_script.iss file - the script which holds the instructions for the installer - and an [app] folder with the application's various components.

Check the [app] folder to see what it contains. If it's very simple, maybe a readme file, an internet shortcut and an executable, you can probably run it immediately without installation.

The more complicated it gets, maybe with drivers to install and services to set up, the more difficult it's going to be to run it without installing. But if you must, for some reason, checking the install_script.iss will show you what the installer tries to do. And then you just have to do much the same thing yourself.

Version 0.46:
- Increased max. LZMA dictionary size to 1Gb (implemented in IS 5.5.9).

Verdict:

It won't work with all installers, or all applications, but Inno Setup Unpacker can still be a handy tool for viewing the contents of some setup files.
