PowerPoint does not provide any built-in tool for highlighting text. However, you can use Microsoft Word to help you with aworkaround, as explained in our Highlight Text inPowerPoint 2013 for Windows tutorial.

Now imagine that you have hundreds of slides and you need to similarly highlight more text. Working repeatedly with Word forall text highlighting across so many slides can be painful. Fortunately, you can tackle this issue easily by using theFormat Painter option within PowerPoint, which let youcopy the highlighting for text and also helps in removing the highlight altogether. The only caveat is that using the FormatPainter will not only add the highlighting attribute, but will also add all other text attributes of the original text such asfont, font color, etc. On the other hand, is there a way to remove highlighting from text within PowerPoint?

  1. Colette, a colleague of mine, had a problem with her Word 2007 document. She had highlighted some section headings for areas that she needed to finish, and those highlights showed up nicely in the Table of Contents (TOC) as a visual reminder.

  3. Now, select all or some of the highlighted text, as shown in Figure 2. We selected sometext that had a blue highlight applied.

  5. Note: The slide in Figure 2, above shows only two highlight colors. There are 15 highlightcolor available in Word to choose from - make sure that you first get the required highlight color to PowerPoint and then copyit. There is no way to change the highlight color in PowerPoint. You can access the Text Highlight Colordrop-down menu within Word, as explained in ourHighlight Text in PowerPoint 2013 tutorial.
  6. Then, click the Format Painter button (highlighted in red withinFigure 3) to copy the highlighting.

  8. Alternatively, when youselect any text you can see theMini Toolbar, as shown inFigure 4. Within the Mini Toolbar select the Format Painter button, asshown highlighted in red within Figure 4.

  11. Either of these options will change the cursor to a Paintbrush icon, as shown highlighted inred within Figure 5. This indicates that the Format Painter is active.

  13. Now, with this changed cursor, just click on a new word to add the highlight to it. In Figure 6,below, you can see that the first word of the third paragraph is now highlighted in blue. This wasearlier not highlighted, as you will find out if you compare with Figure 1, shown earlier on this page. Rememberthough that the Format Painter option works a little differently for text compared to how it works for shapesand other PowerPoint slide objects.   15. Note: If you have more text on the slide or in the entire presentation that needs to be highlighted with thesame color, just double-click the Format Painter button so that it remains selected. Then keep clicking on otherwords you want to highlight. To stop highlighting with the Format Painter button, just press theEsc key or click the Format Painter button again.
  16. To remove highlighting from text, you can simply select some non-highlighted text within the PowerPoint slide. Then,click the Format Painter button (highlighted in red within Figure 7)similarly to copy the non-highlighting attribute.

  18. Now, click on the text you want to remove highlighting from. In Figure 8, below you can see thatwe have removed the highlight from the first paragraph. This was earlier highlighted (compare to Figure 6,shown earlier on this page).

If you tried to open up the file in your standard word processor, then you will completely mess up the formatting of the file. Thankfully, learning how to unhighlight in PDF is not all that difficult. You just need to have the right software at your disposal.

Remove Highlight from PDF with Professional PDF Editor

If you want to learn how to unhighlight in PDF, then you will need to get your hands on the PDFelement software. This step-by-step guide will be using this piece of software. This is because PDFelement makes it ridiculously easy (and fast) to remove highlighted text in a PDF document. In fact, it works in pretty much the same way as a word processor. This means that you will be able to remove highlighted text in no more than a few seconds once you have the software downloaded and, of course, know exactly what you are supposed to be doing.

There are a few different methods for removing highlights from a PDF document with PDFelement. We are going to detail the fastest possible method.

Step 1. Open up the file in PDFelement

Once you have downloaded and installed PDFelement on your computer, load it up.

Click ‘File‘ at the top. From here select ‘Open‘. You can now browse to where your file is located. Click it to open it up. The exact process you will use will be different depending on whether you are using PC or Mac, but the process will not be any different from how you normally open up files.

Step 2. Click the ‘Comment’ icon

At the left sidebar of the page, you will see the ‘Comment’ icon. Click this. Generate public and private key rsa openssl.

Step 3. Unhighlight PDF

This new sidebar will give you a list of all of the individual comments on the page. Those with the bold H symbols are the highlighted text.

Right-Click on the one that you want to delete and click the ‘Delete‘ button. This will remove the highlighted.

Once you have highlighted everything that you want to highlight, then simply press the DEL on your keyboard (or the backspace, if your keyboard does not have a DEL button). There will be a small window to confirm. Hit yes. The highlights will now be removed.

Step 4. Save the PDF

After that, it is simply a case of saving your PDF. Hit the File and “save” button at the top. You can give it a new file name if you want.
