Boston Acoustics is very well known for homeaudio and car audio system. They have some really great products which rangefrom awesome bass pounding car audio systems to their full THX Certified hometheatre system. However, that's not all, Boston Acoustics has also decidedto enter the computer speaker market to capitalize on the recent desires of manypeople (including myself) to have high quality hi-fi and even surround soundsystems on the desktop. With Boston Acoustics' expertise in making highquality speakers, their computer speaker line which they call PersonalDesktop Audio should be nothing short of amazing.

In this review, we'll be taking a look at Boston Acoustics lower endBA635 3-piece speaker set. This set consists of 2 tiny satellitespeakers and a relatively small subwoofer. It was surprisingto see how small these things were in person, it's a bit hard to tell from thepicture. It's amazing to thinkthat they can pump out any good sound at all, but rest assured, our doubtswere firmly placed to rest after we fired these babies up. Anyway,back to that later, here are the specs for this system:

As you can see, the dimension for these speakers are very small, but yet theyweigh quite a bit. The subwooferis much larger than the satellites but much smaller in comparison to othersubwoofers in other speaker packages. The port on the sub is flared atboth ends to eliminate audible turbulence. Also, the set features BostonAcoustics' patented MagnaGuard magnetic shielding so that there will be no videointerference when any of the speakers are placed near your monitor. All in all, the set looks veryattractive and well designed. The advantage of having such small speakers is that theyeasily fit on cramped desktop's where your desk is full of devices suchas printers, fax machines, monitors, etc. They also designed nice pedestals forthe satellites to raise them to point directly to your ears for the bestlistening experience. Sometimes there is justno room for speakers, but with this set you can easily find space for them andstill enjoy great audio.

One nice thing about this set is the volume control. Why am Imentioning the volume control? Well many systems have awkward ways(or places) of implementing the volume control. Some place it onthe subwoofer, others use digital buttons to control volume. TheBA635 uses an analog knob on the right satellite which gives you precisecontrol of the volume. Also, its not one of those knobs that turnsendlessly so you have no idea how high the volume is, it turns about 270degrees and that's it. There is no power button with these speakers,which means they're always on. The good thing about this is thatthe speakers will automatically power themselves down when not in use andwhen you need them, they're ready to rock without bothering with turning them on(a really good feature for lazy people). If for some reason you don't want sound, simply turn the volume knob all theway down. Some people may like to have a power switch, but for meit proved to be unnecessary.

Installation

Installation was a snap, I guess that's why the manual is so small. The manual is a one sheet booklet which outlines the specs and shows you how to hook it up. The wires and where they aresupposed to plug in are beautifully color coded so there is no confusionas to what plugs in where. The wires from the satellites are 2 meters long so you have quite a bit of play room and the AC power adapter/cord are also quite long, so you have ample room to satisfy your creative positioning desires.

The installation includes plugging theleft and right satellites into the subwoofer and also plugging in connectionsfrom the right satellite to the speaker output on the back of your computer and the input on the subwoofer. It would have been nice if the sound card connection could have been atthe back of the subwoofer, that way there would be less wires from theright satellite and it would look a lot cleaner for the right satellite. Also, it would have made it much easier to use these speakers as rear speakersin case you have a 4-speaker input card like the SB Live! or MX300.Audi radio code generator free download.
